Two brothers from Rochdale have completed a charity run in memory of their father.

Andrew Ellis, 32, and his brother Laurie, 28, took part in the Bupa Great North Run in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Sunday (18 September).

The pair lost their father, fire-fighter Richard Ellis, to cancer, seven years ago and since then decided to give something back following all the support they and their family received from various charities and organisations.

The brothers completed the epic 21k run in two hours and four minutes and have exceeded their fundraising target of £790 by raising over £800 for the charity.

Andrew, described the day as “fantastic” he said: “True to its name, it was a great run, though we were both glad to see the finish line after 13.1 arduous miles.

“We started in glorious sunshine, by the halfway point we were absolutely soaked to the bone, and then finished in glorious sunshine just in time to see the red arrows display.”

He added: “To make it even better we have now exceeded our fundraising target, which stands at £826 raised so far! Excellent result thanks to all the kind donations.”
