£300,000 resurfacing for A627(M)
Date published: 19 September 2011
A £300,000 scheme to carry out repairs and resurface sections of the A627(M) between Rochdale and Oldham is to get underway this month.
The four mile motorway, which links the two towns across Junction 20 of the M62, will be subject to 22 nights of overnight work between Monday 26 September and Wednesday 26 October.
The Highways Agency project includes lane and full carriageway closures using overnight working between 10.00pm and 5.00am on the days when work is taking place.
The work includes:
- Overnight closures of the north and southbound carriageways at different times for between Junctions 3 and 4 for routine maintenance and repairs at Queensway Bridge and the slip roads at Junction 4
- Overnight closures of the eastbound and westbound Slattocks link road off Junction 3 road on different nights, for resurfacing, renewal of road marking and installation of new road studs.
- Overnight closure of the northbound carriageway between Junctions 2 and 3 for resurfacing and road marking renewal mainly focusing around slip roads
- Overnight hard shoulder running between Junctions 1 and 2 northbound and southbound on different nights for road marking renewal and stud replacement including on the slip roads.
As well as sections of the main carriageway, slip roads and link roads will also be resurfaced during the eight-phase programme of works. A 50mph speed limit will be in place whenever works are taking place at the various locations along the motorway.
When lanes along the main carriageway are closed the hard shoulder will be used as a running lane.
Clearly-signed diversions will be in place to help motorway users when the main northbound or southbound carriageway, slip roads or link roads are closed.
Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “This [is] important, if routine, maintenance of this part of the motorway network in Greater Manchester and it is vital to ensure we can help drivers continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.
“The work is being carried out overnight and in several phases to help minimise inconvenience to motorway users.”
