John Cadwallader, Licensee of the Pack Horse Inn in Birtle, is swimming the equivalent of the English Channel to raise money for Aspire – the charity for people spinal cord injuries.
Mr Cadwallader, 62, started the ‘Aspire Channel Swim’ this week at his local swimming pool and he has 12 weeks to complete 22 miles of swimming.
His plan is to visit the pool three times a week, swimming 52 lengths a week in the 25 metre pool, to complete the challenge.
“I’m doing this as a way of giving something back,” Mr Cadwallader said, “I’m told by aspire that spinal injury affects someone in this country every eight or nine hours a day.”
The challenge runs until early December but Mr Cadwallader hopes to complete the swim before then.
Mr Cadwallader has set a fundraising target of £500.
