Rochdale remembers those who died in the 9/11 attacks

Date published: 13 September 2011

Last Sunday a remembrance ceremony was held at Rochdale’s Fire Station to celebrate the lives and mourn the deaths of those people who died in the 9/11 attacks just over a decade ago. There was a minute of silent reflection shared by all present.

There are few events that shock the world as the events did on 11 September 2001. Watching and reliving those shocking moments again last week reminds us all of the bravery and heroism demonstrated by everyone involved on that tragic day.

It is difficult to watch the senseless loss of life and recognise the sheer magnitude of what happened.

The world changed on that day. Our prayers and thoughts are with those who lost loved ones. They will always be remembered.

Benjamin McDermott, one of the event’s organisers, thanked the Rochdale Council for its contribution in the remembrance, and personally gave thanks to Councillor Colin Lambert, Leader of the Council, as well as all attending councillors.

Councillor Lambert, said: “It’s important that the civilians and uniform services who lost their lives in 9/11 should be shown the respect and gratitude of people around the world. It was appropriate that around the country this respect was held with our colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.”
