Middleton’s own shining gem, Joe Langton, has been given a glowing approval by judges at the Open Mic UK auditions. Wowing the judges at every turn, Joe has made it through to the Regional Finals and is soon to perform the live showcases of Open Mic UK 2011, the most prestigious vocal talent competition in the UK.
Open Mic UK 2011 seeks out the best singers/vocalists the UK has to offer, to perform their own songs or cover versions of others’. Anything goes: Rap, Beat-Box, R’n’B, Classical, Opera - even Yodeling is acceptable! All have a place on the Open Mic stage.
The competition is split into three age categories: 16 and under, 17-22 and 23+. All types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters are invited to enter Open Mic UK. There’s over £50, 000 in prizes up for grabs this year and the overall winner of Open Mic UK 2011 will be offered a recording contract, with an investment of up to £30, 000! They’ll also have the opportunity to travel the UK in an Open Mic tour.
Joe Langton now competes for a place at the O2 in London, for the National Finals, and the chance to snatch up that elusive recording contract. Thousands of hopeful contestants entered nationwide, and hundreds of auditionees queued en masse on the day for their opportunity leave the judged awe-struck. Those who made it through the audition stage will now take part in a live, regional, head-to-head battle alongside their rival talent. They’ll be performing in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel, all desperate to win that place in the National Grand Final and possibly, just possibly, that £30,000 prize.
Chris Grayston, head of Future Music Management, commented on the competition: “We are searching for an act whose live performance will impress an audience, industry judges and A&R associates, and who has the potential to become a professional recording artist. The standard was high last year and this year looks set to be even better.”
ICMP are offering songwriting courses and master-classes throughout the competition, meaning skill development opportunities for all those involved. The latter stages of the competition will also provide acts with the chance to impress many agencies, record labels and the entertainment industry as a whole, as well as judges from BBC Introducing (a sect of the BBC dedicated to under-the-radar musicians), national radio and regional press.
The winners have the opportunity of fame with so many other companies and organizations paying close attention to the Open Mic competition, it’s almost guaranteed that the young stars will be approached with recording propositions and contract deals. One thing is for certain the winners from each age group will be invited on the Open Mic UK tour, which will take them around the country in a roaring tour of 100 gigs.
