Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

Date published: 13 September 2011

Students and staff would like to thank everyone who came to our Open Evening last Wednesday night. It was fantastic to see so many of you attend – we are sure you will agree that we have a wonderful school, and we look forward to working with you in the future should you choose Oulder Hill for next September. If you were unable to come last Wednesday night and would like to find out more, please telephone the school on (01706) 645522 to make an appointment.

Congratulations to our Year 11 students who successfully completed their work experience placements last week. Again, you did the school proud and it was lovely to hear and read so many fantastic reports from your employers - who we would like to say – we cannot thank enough for providing you with these placements and opportunities to develop your confidence and work skills. For Year 11 it is now back to school to concentrate on studying for your exams.

We would like to draw to your attention to the forthcoming Key Stage 4 Matters Evening, which is to be held in school on Thursday 22nd September. This event is aimed at parents and carers of students in Years 10 and 11 and its purpose is to provide an overview of what students will be doing in school over the next year and also give information on how to support them with their studies in order that they maximise their potential. There will also be a session on post 16 transition – this might seem like a long way off yet but it is important that students and their parents and carers start to think about this now. The evening starts at 6.00pm and will finish by 7.30pm but could parents and carers of students in 11M please arrive by 5.30pm. We look forward to seeing you on the evening to support your child in what is the most important year in their education so far.

We would like to congratulate our Under 13 Cricket Team who, just before the summer holidays, became the Rochdale Champions by defeating St. Cuthberts. Batting first, the opposition were limited to just 76 runs due to a disciplined display of bowling and some fine fielding from our boys. Our boys then came in to bat - this did not immediately go according to plan, with Oulder Hill struggling to just 56 runs with 8 wickets down. Then came a true man of the match performance from Adam Deaville to win the tie for Oulder Hill – taking the game by the scruff of the neck Adam hit some thunderous boundaries to ensure victory. Well done to Adam and to the other boys on what was a really good team performance. They each received a medal, and the team also received a £50 sports voucher. The team in full was James Schofield, Faad Khan, Daniel Schofield, Oliver Greenwood, Luke Barrett, Ellis Taylor, Subnaan Ali, Haider Rashid, Connor Wright, Bailey Smyth, Kai Creswell and Adam Deaville.
