Post Office move confirmed
Date published: 08 September 2011
It has been confirmed that the Post Office in Castleton is to move... 200 yards up the road! The Post Office is relocating from 858-860 Manchester Road to 817 Manchester Road.
Writing to Castleton residents, the Post Office said a small number of complaints and comments were received regarding the proposed move but there was also several responses of support.
Andy Wright, the Post Office Field Change Advisor, apologised for the inconvenience for the a slightly longer journey some will have.
Mr Wright added: "I have carefully considered my original proposal and the feedback received during the formal period of public consultation. I am confident that the new service is suitably located and will meet the needs of our customers in the local community."
Castleton resident John Heyworth said: "Whilst it is disappointing that the outcome of the consultation has gone against local residents, it is important to remember that we are at least retaining a post office in Castleton."
Another Castleton resident, Frank Salt, said: "Whilst the move may inconvenience some residents the bus stop situation at the current office is poor. The new location has bus stops in both directions and a pelican crossing, making it much more convenient."
