Local hairdresser recognised as one of the UK’s top stylists

Peter Ridehalgh, from Jamilla Paul Hair & Beauty, based in Rochdale and Littleborough, has been recognised as one of the UK’s top professional hairstylists following his success at reaching the UK Final of the hairdressing industry’s most prestigious competition, the Wella Professionals Trend Vision Award 2011, in the Colour Category.
This year’s Wella Professionals Trend Vision Award had over 800 entries at the initial photographic stage, with regional heats taking place across the country in Scotland, Manchester, the Midlands and London over the last few weeks.
Following Peter's success in the Manchester Regional Hea,t based at the Hilton Hotel in June, he is now one of only 20 hairdressers to reach this year’s UK Final, making him one of the country’s most sought-after and in-demand professional hairstylist and colourists.
Created to discover and acknowledge the industry’s most skilled hair stylists and colourists, the competition focuses on all aspects of hair styling and colouring, and the Photographic and Regional Heats are judged by some of the UK’s leading hair icons, including Nicky Clarke and Edward Darley from Sassoon.
Each year, Wella Professionals produces four key trend looks that are designed to inspire the competition. The Young Talent Category is open to stylists under 30 years old to showcase their styling, technical and finishing skills, whilst the Color Category gives colourists of any age the opportunity to express their creativity and put their colouring skills to the test.
This year the four trends are Passionista, Lumina, Glamazon and Polaris and entrants are asked to interpret one of the four trends with their own personal style. This annual four stage competition kicked off earlier this year with a Photographic Entry and Peter’s interpretation of Polaris took them through to the Manchester Regional Final where they showcased their chosen trend on a live model in a dazzling evening show.
“I’m so proud to have reached the UK Final of such a prestigious competition. I’ve always had a huge passion for hair and I am very excited about taking part and competing against the best hairdressers in the country at the Wella Professionals Trend Vision Award UK Final in September” says Peter.
Peter will now have time to prepare for the Wella Professionals Trend Vision Award UK Final, one of the industry’s biggest and most inspirational events. Due to take place on Monday 26 September at the legendary cultural venue, the Roundhouse in London’s Camden. Competitors will present in front of hundreds and be judged by the best in the industry for the opportunity to walk away with the ultimate accolade in hairdressing.
P&G Salon Professional Partnership Service Manager, UK & Ireland, Sheila Jackson says: "The Trend Vision Award continues to evolve and push the boundaries of hairdressing talent to the limits. Every individual who has reached the UK Final should feel very proud of what they have all achieved. It is fantastic to see so much passion and creativity and I know our esteemed panel of judges found the standard of work higher than ever before. On behalf of Wella Professionals, we wish the finalists luck as they set out to make their mark at the UK Final in September.”
Should Peter now be successful at the UK Final, they will also get the chance to take part in the International Trend Vision Award Final later this year in New York – the pinnacle of this internationally renowned competition.
