Age UK launches Big Knit to help keep older people warm this winter

Date published: 07 September 2011

Age UK Metro Rochdale are urging local knitters to join them in helping to keep local older people warm this winter.

Age UK have joined forces with Innocent Smoothies and Sainsburys, in a campaign that aims to make winter warmer for older people.

All you need to do is knit little hats for Innocent Smoothie bottles and for every bottle of smoothie sold with a hat on Age UK gets 25p.

Last year the campaign raised over £160,000 which provided electric blankets and hot meals for some of our most vunerable older people.

Knitting patterns can be downloaded at:

www.innocentdrinks.co.uk/bigknit

Or picked up from the Age UK Rochdale office on South Parade.

In addition to this there will be a Big Knit stand in Rochdale Market on Tuesday 13th September, where patterns and wool kindly donated by Mandys Wool Shop in Heywood, will be available to knitters that want to get involved. All knitted hats need to be dropped off at Rochdale Age UK by Tuesday 11 October 2011.

For more information please ring Beckie at Age UK Rochdale on 01706 712515.
