Less red tape welcomed

Date published: 02 September 2011

Calls from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) for less red tape and to make working always preferable to welfare, has been welcomed by local MEP Paul Nuttall.

"What the BCC are saying is just plain common sense. I have long advocated a reform of the welfare system that encourages work rather than dependence,” said Mr Nuttall, Euro-MP for UKIP.

“And as far as red tape is concerned, well until British business and its spokesman, like the BCC, make it clear that our membership of the EU is responsible for most of the massive compliance costs facing British business, we will get nowhere.

“It doesn't matter how business friendly Westminster is, when you have the EU creating enormous tangles of red tape to penalise anybody considering employing anyone.

“It is a shame that David Frost has waited until the last day in his job to point out the obvious, but better late than never,” said Mr Nuttall.
