Brothers in race for cancer charity
Date published: 01 September 2011

Andrew & Laurie Ellis
Seven years ago Andrew and Laurie Ellis lost their father, Richard Ellis, to cancer and since they have wanted to give something back for all the tremendous support they received from the various charities and organisations, during what was a very difficult time.
To that end, the brothers entered The Bupa Manchester 10K run in aid of The Christie.
At the time of entering neither had done anything like it before nor had they run any great distance before. They slogged out the training over the winter, come rain or snow, and in May they finished in 53 minutes and raised £347.22.
So following on from the Manchester 10K, around 6 weeks ago they secured places on The Bupa Great North Run. This time in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Andrew said: "We have pledged to complete this in less than 2 hours! No easy feat, especially considering its more than double the distance at 21K (13.1 miles) of our last run.
"So with just less than 3 weeks to go, we're training as much as possible, and understandably its hard work. Sore joints, aching limbs, blistered feet, you get the picture.
"We have been set a combined target of £790 (targets are high as Great North is incredibly popular), so far we have raised £70. Although we expect a lot of donations to start rolling in soon, we wondered if Rochdale Online readers might support for us and help the miles pass a little easier!
"We have a justgiving page all set up were people can quickly donate, you can even donate by text message."
