Rochdale Council’s Executive Director for Children’s Services has praised students across the borough for their GCSE results.

Youngsters in the town collected their results today (25 August) marking the end to their school life.

This year’s results show that 52.8 per cent of pupils achieved 5 or more A-C results that include English and Maths. This is up from 43.4 per cent in 2008, 47.8 per cent in 2009 and 51.4 per cent last year (2010).

Cheryl Eastwood, said: “GCSE results this year are slightly up on 2010 and we are pleased to see that we are continuing to improve each year.

“These results are great news for our students and I want to congratulate them and wish them continued success.”

“These results follow the great news last week of the outstanding success achieved at AS at Rochdale Sixth Form College’s first year. I’m sure that many of these young people will go on to study here in light of their GCSE results.”
