Teens celebrate outstanding GCSE results at St Cuthbert’s

There were lots of smiles for St Cuthbert’s Business and Enterprise College students today (25 August) as they collected their GCSE results.
The 16-year-olds piled into the school hall at 9.00am for their results – the youngsters cheered and shared hugs with their friends as they tore open the envelopes containing their grades.
Fifty per cent of students achieved five A*- C grades including English and Maths and 65 per cent of student achieved five A* - C grades – the best ever in the school’s history.
Amongst those celebrating outstanding results is Dana Hopper from Bamford achieved 11 A* grades and three A grades.
She said: “I did better than expected, I’m happy, I’m speechless!”
Miss Hopper hopes to be a doctor one day. In September she will study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics at Holy Cross.
James Kenny, also from Bamford, achieved 10 A* grades and four A grades, he said: “I’m really happy, I worked hard.”
Mr Kenny will celebrate with his family today. Next month he begins his A level studies at Holy Cross where he will study Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and French.
Angelica Fostinis, from Milnrow, gained eight A* grades and three A grades.
She said: “I am so happy, I hit my targets but it was a lot of graft, the hard work has paid off.”
Miss Fostinis will study Chemistry, Biology, English Literature and Spanish. She hopes to be a Forensic Scientist.
Chanel Hanes, achieved three A* grades and seven A grades and was delighted.
She said: “I’m really impressed, I worked really hard. A lot of people said I would get B’s and I got more than that.”
Miss Hanes will start studying at Holy Cross in September. She will study Chemistry, Biology, English Literature and Language and Psychology.
Laura Spencer, from Norden, achieved two A* grades, six A grades and 2 B grades.
She said: “I couldn’t sleep last night; I couldn’t eat this morning, when I got them I was shaking, now it is the best feeling ever; I have done better than I was expecting.”
Miss Spencer will study Business, Economics, English and Psychology at Holy Cross in September.
Philippa Groves, also from Norden, is celebrating two A* grades, seven A grades and one B grade. She said: “I am very happy!”
Miss Groves is going to Bury College to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology.
Courtney Chrimes, from Norden, said she was “over the moon” with her three A* grades, five A grades and one B grade. She will also go to Holy Cross to study French, Textiles English Literature and Language and Philosophy.
Julia Boardman achieved three A* grades, seven A grades, one B grade and one C grade.
She said: “I am so happy, I was so nervous this morning, I can’t even speak now, I’m overwhelmed.”
Miss Boardman is heading to Bury College to study English Literature and Language, Theatre Studies and Spanish.
Katherine McCallion achieved 2 A* grades, eight A grades and one C grade.
She said: “I’m so happy I’m shaking. I have done miles better than I was expecting.”
Next month Miss McCallion will start studying PE, Law, Biology and Psychology at Holy Cross.
Dominik Bednarski, originally from Poland, achieved an A* grade, six A grades, four B grades and three C grades.
He said he was pleased that the results will get him into college. He is going to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at Holy Cross. In the future he hopes to attend Oxford and Cambridge.
Dr Chris Meehan, Head Teacher of St Cuthbert’s said: “We are once again delighted with the achievements of our young people.
“They have been well prepared for the next steps in their chosen careers. I would like to thank the teachers and the support staff for all their hard work – they continue to show their commitment to serving the needs of our youngsters.
“We would like to wish our students all the best for the future.”
