Deliberate fire at primary school

Fire fighters from Rochdale fire station attended a deliberate blaze at a primary school in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 20 August).

The fire service was called to St John’s RC Primary School on Ann Street at 3.54am following reports of a fire. On arrival they were faced with a fire involving a quantity of timber in the school extension.

A hose reel was used to extinguish the fire.

There are no reports of damage to the school.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the fire was believed to have been started deliberately by youths with matches.
