A day of action on the Kirkholt estate
A day of action, led by the Rochdale community fire safety department, has been held on the Kirkholt estate.
The community fire safety team were joined by the police, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), environmental services and the fire service.
The organisations visited over 360 properties. Police offered security and burglary reduction advice, environmental services gave recycling advice and RBH staff spoke to tenants about any issues they had.
Over 70 residents signed up for a free home fire risk assessment by the fire service which included the fitting of free 10 year lasting smoke alarm.
Community fire safety officer, Mick Cryer, said: “We have undertaken several of these days of action recently across the borough, and they have been a great success, along with our partner agencies we are providing a visual presence in the community to make Rochdale a safer environment for all. We have more of these days planned for later this year and beyond”
Alan Bones, participation officer for Rochdale Council environmental services, said: “These initiatives have been a great lever for us to get into the community to offer advice on re-cycling and to discuss with residents any issues they may have regarding waste management.”
Ian Blundell, RBH senior caretaker, added: “Housing officers, wardens and caretakers have been working alongside our partners from the police and fire service to discuss with residents any issues they may have had regarding their properties, and a few minor issues have been highlighted which will be dealt with.”
Police Community support officer for the Kirkholt area Rachel Williams concluded: “It has been a really good event and folk have been very complimentary about our attendance today.”
