Parks in the running to be nation’s favourite

Date published: 16 August 2011

Eight of the borough’s parks and green spaces are in the running to become the nation’s favourite, having been awarded Green Flag status.

Last year, Queen’s Park in Heywood won the national accolade and now votes are needed to keep the title in the borough.

Keep Britain Tidy is looking to discover the ‘People’s Choice’ site of the year Green Flag park or green space, with voting closing on 11 September. So if you’re a fan of any of the borough’s Green Flag parks and green spaces then give them your vote!

The easiest way to vote is to go to www.rochdale.gov.uk/parks and click on the banner at the top which will take you through to the Keep Britain Tidy voting page. The location that gets the most votes will receive a special award at the Green Flag Award Scheme’s annual awards ceremony in October.

Councillor Martin Burke, Cabinet Member for Internal and Environmental Services at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We know people in the borough love their parks and open spaces so I’d encourage everybody to vote for their favourite. Having had the nation’s favourite Green Flag park last year, with Hare Hill in 3rd place, we know we are the place everyone is looking to beat.”

“So much hard work goes on throughout the year to keep our parks and green spaces at a high standard this award would show staff and volunteers that their dedication is really appreciated by the public who use them.”

The Rochdale borough’s Green Flag-awarded parks and green spaces in the running to become the nation’s favourite are:

Middleton:
Truffet Park, Langley
Middleton Cemetery, Boarshaw

Pennines:
