A Liberal Democrat activist from Rochdale has been nominated for election to the governing council of the Electoral Reform Society (ERS).
John Heyworth, 42, from Castleton, is one of 53 candidates up for election.
The Council is made up of 15 members, who are elected by a vote of the ERS’s members.
The main functions of the Council are to establish the Society’s strategic directions and aims, ensure accountability of the Society’s performance and ensure the Society is managed with probity and integrity.
Voting commenced on Monday (8 August) and the result will be announced at the end of the month.
Mr Heyworth, said: "Electoral Reform is something I believe in.
“The loss of the recent AV referendum was a blow to reformers - but it does not, and should not, signal the end of the campaign for change.
“The ERS is a powerful nationwide organisation with members of all political parties and none, if elected I fully intend to play an active role in the drive to reinvent the way British politics is operated."
