Over £1,300 raised at charity Iftar
Date published: 10 August 2011
The Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project (RBPP) raised more than £1,300 at a charity Iftar – a gathering to break the fast – on Tuesday night (9 August).
The proceeds of the event are for the joint programme between BRAC and Sightsavers International, who are working in Bangladesh to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people in the developing world under the “Vision Bangladesh” agenda by 2014.
The Charity Iftar, now in its second year, was held at the Miah’s Grill Restaurant in Rochdale and attended by members of the Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project (RBPP), friends, family and members of the public.
£1,310 was raised and will be forwarded to the BRAC UK offices who will make arrangements in conjunction with Sightsavers International for providing cataract operations in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. Sylhet was adjoined to Rochdale through a Friendship Link two years ago.
Secretary of RBPP, Mohammed Dobir Miah, said: "We are grateful for all the donations made at the charity Iftar, even though we are in a recession, people have still dug deep to contribute to a very worthy cause.
“On behalf of the RBPP I would like to thank all those who took part in the charity Iftar. We hope that our contribution will go a long way to help those who are less fortunate and with better vision can build their lives.
“Can I also extend my thanks to Mr Arus Miah and his staff at the Miah’s Grill Restaurant in Rochdale for hosting the charity Iftar.”
