Councillors salute progress on Kirkholt’s first new build in years

Date published: 08 August 2011

Kirkholt Councillors have visited the site on Romeny Avenue of the first new houses being built under the Kirkholt regeneration programme ‘Vision for Kirkholt.’

Planned for this location are a cluster of bungalows - the first new build of Council sponsored housing on the estate for a number of years.

The site is being developed by Brighter Horizons, a subsidiary of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing.

Councillor Pat Colclugh said: "We welcome the good progress that has been made over the last few months at this site. The Romeny Avenue is the first Council housing development for years on the estate and is the first delivered project of new housing from the current "Vision for Kirkholt" regeneration programme."

Councillor Dale Mulgrew said: "The bungalows looked really fabulous. I hope they will be an asset to the estate because of the ever increasing demand in the area for appropriate accommodation for people of an older age.

"I hope the Romeny Avenue project brings a momentum that can help provide confidence that the redevelopment plans are ongoing for the estate. Although times are tough, and the housing market is oscillating, this almost completed housing project proves there is still regeneration happening on the Kirkholt estate."
