Grant boost for community project
Date published: 07 August 2011
A steering group keen to get more people using the space available at St Peter’s Church in Newbold are celebrating after receiving a £5,000 grant from the Church Urban Fund.
St Peter’s Multicultural Community Project aims to get members of the community involved with different groups, have fun, socialise and learn.
The Project is currently hosting a community cafe on a Wednesday and is looking to set up other activities. They hope that the grant will enable them to get some other activities off the ground.
Sharon Taylor, who has been involved with the steering group from the start said they are “over the moon” with the grant.
She added: “It is quite a lot of money and it will keep the Project up and running. The community cafe is more or less all day on a Wednesday and we are running off donations, also when it gets cold we will need the money for heating.
“We hope that if we get a new group we can fund it for a couple of weeks whilst they get their bearings and get it up and running.”
The Project has also received a £40 food voucher from Morrison’s which they will use for the community cafe.
Ms Taylor said: “That is a big help. The community cafe is great, it is really popular.”
The Project is also tidying up the garden area of the church grounds so it can be a place for people to enjoy. If anyone is interested in helping with the gardening contact Ms Taylor on 07772008037.
