Ten arrested following raids

Date published: 04 August 2011

Ten people have been arrested after raids were carried out in Middleton.

Police used drugs warrants to search 13 addresses in the area over the course of the last two days (3 and 4 August), with 10 people being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs, a root cause of burglary in the town.

Officers also seized a quantity of drugs, cash and stolen property.

Rochdale Online joined officers on the early morning raids on the first day of action, on Wednesday (3 August).

Operation Phoenix was an intelligence-led operation and is part of a bid to reduce burglary – an associated crime of drugs.

Detective Chief Inspector Alistair Mallen of GMP’s Rochdale Division said: We’re pleased with this result, which in the main was down to the support we got from the community together with some good local neighbourhood policing.

“Burglars who target people’s homes remain very much at the top of our list of priorities, as we see first hand the untold misery and distress they cause.

“The people arrested create the environment for these criminals to operate in.

Detective Chief Inspector Alistair Mallen added: “This is only the first wave of raids across the borough, and those involved in burglary or trading stolen goods should beware, because the next door we come through may be yours.

Anyone with any information about burglars or those who trade in stolen goods should contact police on 0161 872 5050.
