Primary pupils results above SAT-isfactory
Date published: 04 August 2011
Nearly three-quarters of children left primary school in Rochdale this summer having exceeded their targeted SATS results.
Figures show that 72 per cent of the borough’s 11-year-olds reached above the standard expected of their age (Level 4) in both the English and maths national curriculum tests.
Overall the results for the tests showed: 83 per cent of Rochdale youngsters achieved above level four in reading. 74 per cent achieved above level four in writing.
80 per cent achieved above level four in English (made up of reading and writing tests) and 79 per cent achieved above level four in maths.
Sue Brown, Service Director at Rochdale Borough Council said: “This year’s Key Stage 2 results show that Rochdale primary schools continue to provide a high standard of education.
“Nearly three quarters of primary schools were judged to be good or outstanding in their most recent inspections, with attainment in reading, writing and mathematics all within just one percentage point of the national average.”
“This is another very pleasing set of results and just reward for the continuing hard work of school staff and governors across the borough.
“We are not complacent however and will continue to work in partnership with all our schools to build further on current success.”
Schools Minister Nick Gibb said: “Thousands of children are doing very well, testament to their hard work and the professional skill of their teachers. The fact that more children are reaching the expected level in every subject is very welcome as is the significant increase in the proportion of children achieving well in writing.
“But a third of children are still struggling in the three Rs. There has been a decline in the proportion of children – both boys and girls – who can read and write beyond the expected level. And the results of our weakest readers and writers also remain a real concern."
