£900k VAT rebate for Council
Date published: 04 August 2011
Rochdale Council will receive a staggering £900,000 rebate after paying more VAT than it should have done for 17 years.
HM Revenue and Customs have agreed to the rebate after it was found RMBC’s VAT bill had been miscalculated between 1990 and 2007.
To get its money back, the council employed accountants Price Waterhouse Cooper on a no-win, no-fee contract.
A spokesman for Rochdale council said: "Price Waterhouse Cooper was used for a collaborative contract on a no win, no fee basis to do a review of VAT payments to HM Revenue and Customs. This resulted in a repayment of over £900,000 to the council."
The remaining funds after Price Waterhouse Cooper is paid will go into the council’s general funding pot.
