Two handy men from the borough of Rochdale who have notched up over 21 years of volunteering between them have been thanked for their service after deciding to hang up their hammers for the last time.
Len Branton of Rochdale and Ray Bowden of Middleton have been thanked by Age UK Rochdale and presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their hard work.
Mr Branton was a Telecoms Engineer by trade and wanted something to do when he retired.
He said: “It was great being able to help out older people, especially those who seem to be vulnerable to being ripped off by bogus trades people.”
Mr Bowden an Electrician by trade, added: “People did really appreciate what we did, it was very satisfying being able to make their day.”
Paul Gala of Age UK Rochdale, said: “Without volunteers we are unable to offer many of our services, we are really grateful to volunteers like Ray and Len for giving their time to help others in this way. Our Handy Person Scheme is still going strong throughout the Borough and the difference it makes to people’s lives is huge.”
Julie Warmisham the Handy Person Coordinator added: “We are always looking for more volunteers for this service.”
