Proof that it’s never too late to learn

Date published: 28 July 2011

A Heywood woman who left her job to embark on a new career is living proof that it is never too late to learn.

Angela Smith, 48, is currently studying for a degree in Adult Nursing at Salford University.

Ms Smith was an office manager, but she gave up her job and headed for a career in nursing after being inspired into the role following caring for a friend.

With support from family and friends and encouragement from district nurses Ms Smith completed Access Levels 2 and 3 at Bury College before starting university.

Ms Smith praised the tutors at the college and said she “loves” nursing.

She added: “The main thing is to never give up.

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and I’d recommend it to anyone as it really prepared me for university.”

Ms Smith’s daughter Katie was enthused by her determination and positive attitude and aims to follow in her footsteps into a career in nursing.
