Determined student all smiles after securing university place

Date published: 28 July 2011

A Hopwood Hall College student is celebrating after securing a place at London South Bank University.

Naomi Rushworth, gained a triple distinction grade in her level 3, BTEC National Diploma in Business course at the college as well as completing Maths and English GCSEs. She will now head to the capital to study Marketing at degree level.

Extreme personal circumstances mean Ms Rushworth started the College without the standard GCSE requirements. After doing some work experience, gaining great work ethics and the determination to succeed, she has excelled beyond all expectations. As class representative and an active member of the Student Leadership Team, she has led her peers by example and also inspired those around her to aim high and achieve their goals too.

As a member of the Management Committee of Langley’s local Well Woman Centre, Ms Rushworth now utilises all of her knowledge and skills developed through her business course to run her own workshops, develop and edit the organisations newsletter and contribute to many other ongoing business strategies.

Business lecturer Elaine Morley said: “Naomi is a true representation of what hard work, motivation and determination can achieve.

“She has dealt with many difficulties within such a young life and always came back fighting stronger than ever.

“She has also achieved the College Student of the Month award for June 2010 and 2011, and she is a truly deserving candidate of this award.

“Naomi and her family should be truly proud of all she has achieved. Hopwood Hall College wish you all the success you deserve within your future Naomi - good luck and well done!”
