The first in a series of monthly Farmers’ Markets to be held in Milnrow took place on Sunday (24 July) – attracting people from far and wide to browse the stalls, creating a bustling atmosphere.
The market, which boasted 13 stalls varying from cakes to crafts, was hosted by the newly formed Milnrow and Newhey Heritage and Conservation Group.
The event, held on grounds of the Wagon Inn on New Street, will now take place on the last Sunday of every month.
The group hopes the market will bring the community together.
Group member and landlord of the Wagon Inn, Dave Bamford, said: “Milnrow needs something happening to get the community involved and this is it.
“The turnout is really good and I think it will get stronger as the day goes on. It is nice to see so many people out.”
He added: “We have got traditional stuff like jam and cheeses and homemade bread to livestock and crafts.
“There will be more stalls next time as well. This is something we are building up; it is a work in progress.”
Chairman of the group, Keith Swift, said: “The Farmers’ Market has got off to a really good start and I thank the people of Milnrow and Newhey for supporting it.
“The funds raised from the markets will go towards heritage and conservation work in the two villages, we have one or two projects in mind that we will now be able to take forward.”
