Police appeal for driver to come forward
Date published: 21 July 2011
Police in Lancashire are appealing for the driver of a black hatchback to come forward following a fatal collision in Haslingden in May.
Aftal Azram, 43, from Rochdale was killed following the collision around 10.30pm on Friday 27 May on Grane Road outside the Holden Arms Public House.
He was driving a black BMW saloon towards Haslingden, when for unknown reasons his car crossed onto the opposite carriageway and collided with a silver Ford Mondeo estate.
Mr Azram was cut out of his car but sadly died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
Police are now keen to speak with the driver of a black hatchback who was also travelling along Grane Road around the time of the collision and was possibly overtaken by the BMW.
The male driver did stop at the scene and spoke with a number of other witnesses before leaving by driving down Holcombe Road.
Sergeant Mick Young from the Road Policing Unit, said: "I am very keen to speak with the driver of the black hatchback, he could provide us with vital information which could greatly assist with this inquiry.
"If this was you then please come forward. I'm also keen to speak with any other witnesses at the scene who may have spoken with this man.
"Just to be clear we simply think this man could provide us with important information about the circumstances of the collision and would urge him to come forward."
Anybody with any information is asked to contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
