‘Parking chaos’ on Woodbine Street
Date published: 18 July 2011
A resident has spoken of her anger at the parking problems on Woodbine Street whilst a new housing development has been built.
Sharon Taylor described the parking on the road as “chaos” and claims that contractors from Southdale are blocking drives, parking so far on the kerb that residents have to walk in the road and that increased traffic on the road is leading to safety concerns.
Southdale is building 27 homes on behalf of Great Places Housing Group.
Work has now also started on the Wellfield Surgery – which Ms Taylor feels will only add to the current problems.
It isn’t the first time that concerns over parking issues on Woodbine Street have been raised. Residents campaigned when the original plans were drawn up to stop the development going ahead because of the potential of increased parking problems.
Ms Taylor said: “These issues are causing the street to become dangerous and for the elderly to have to walk on the road is not acceptable.
“Residents are worried about the amount of traffic when the houses are occupied and it is unsafe for children to play out.
"The street is a accident waiting to happen. It is beyond a joke now."
A spokesperson for Southdale, said: “Southdale is aware that the new build housing development on Woodbine Street, which is now almost complete, has recently been experiencing additional traffic due to the completion of essential services and a new footpath.
“Southdale is working closely with our construction partners and service providers to minimise any disruption to residents and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“We are not aware of any site traffic blocking resident access or egress routes and endeavour to complete this element of work as swiftly as possible.
“We would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding at this busy time.”
