Fun day to raise cash for worthy causes
Date published: 17 July 2011
The rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of keen fundraisers who hosted a family fun day on Sunday (17 July) to raise money for four charities.
The fundraiser, held at the Norton Grange Hotel, included balloon making, face and body painting, a chance to meet children’s characters, a cake sale and a barbeque.
The day was set up to raise money for: Look Good Feel Better, an organisation which offers free skincare and make-up workshops to help women combat the visible side effects of cancer treatment, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Scott Ward-Schofield Memorial Fund, a charity aimed at creating lasting memories for Epidermolysis Bullosa sufferers and their families.
The downpour meant some of the activities planned for outside were moved inside but that didn’t deter visitors to the event – a day which proved you don’t need sunshine to have a good time!
The event was the brainchild of Amanda Crowe, who works at Boots in Rochdale and Paul Bedford a fitness instructor at the Norton Grange Hotel. The pair discussed organising a fundraiser which they say just “grew and grew.”
Ms Crowe has organised events before but nothing as big as this.
She said: “I think the day is going well, I just hope that as well as raising money the day raises awareness of the charities – if I raise nothing else I hope to raise awareness.
“The money raised today will be split equally between the four charities.”
UPDATE Monday 18 July: The event has so far raised a total of £2,000. £1,500 was collected on the day and £500 will be donated the Boots Make a Difference Fund.
Anyone who would still like to donate can contact Amanda Crowe on 07763144771.
