A woman from Castleton is preparing for a charity skydive to raise money for the NSPCC – despite having never been on an aeroplane before.
Chantelle Murphy, 33, will make the giant leap for the children’s charity in August.
The mum of three, said: “I have never even been in an aeroplane in my life before, so even though I am very excited about the jump, I'm also kind of nervous.”
Ms Murphy decided to raise money for the NSPCC on reflection from her own experience with the charity.
She said: “As a child who was in care and who is so grateful to ChildLine for being there and helping me at a really bad time, the NSPCC is a charity very close to my heart and I obviously hope to raise as much as possible for them.”
Ms Murphy has set a fundraising target of £400.
She added: “People are sadly quick to talk bad of the social work department and mistakes that they may make, not realising the amount of work that these people actually do and the workload that they have. Yet most people don’t actually do anything to help, mainly because they don’t know how to help.
“Sponsoring me means that they can help and they really can make a difference, they may not be able to answer calls to the help lines themselves, but they can help to pay for a trained counsellor to answer these calls, which is just as good.
“Sponsoring me means that they would help the NSPCC and ChildLine to continue with the crucial work they do, which in my opinion, must help the social work department help these kids.”
