Crimewatch appeal following town centre attack

Date published: 13 July 2011

An appeal for information following an attack, which left a 20-year-old woman with horrendous injuries, has been shown on Crimewatch.

Laura Wilkinson, 20, was found in an alleyway between Yorkshire Street and Newgate on the morning of Saturday 28 May, she had serious head and face injuries and was found wearing a nightdress that wasn’t hers.

On Friday 27 May, Ms Wilkison had been on a night out with friends, which began with a meal and bowling followed by drinks at the Litten Tree.

In the early hours of Saturday 28 May Ms Wilkinson began to make her way home, CCTV footage shows her entering the alley where she was later found.

Moments later a man is also seen entering the alleyway. Police want to urgently speak to this man.

Ms Wilkinson’s injuries were so bad police feared she may not survive.

Police are appealing for any information regarding the nightdress Ms Wilkinson was found in. It was of a Christmas theme there is no maker’s logo anywhere on the nightdress, just a label that reads ‘Merry Christmas.’

All of Ms Wilkinson’s clothes, shoes, handbags and contents are missing. The only things recovered were Ms Wilkinson’s bank card and ID Cards.

Her bank card was handed into the Natwest bank in Rochdale some days later. Officers are keen to speak to the person who handed the card in.

Anyone with information is urged to call Greater Manchester Police’s Incident Room on 0161 856 4646 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
