Neeli Mosque opens its doors to primary schools

Date published: 11 July 2011

Nineteen primary schools from across the borough have taken part in a week long programme at the Neeli Mosque, Rochdale.

The programme, now in its fourth year, informed the children of some basic fundamental beliefs of Islam in a fun and interactive way. The children were also given a tour of the Mosque which highlights some of the key functions and features which take place within the building.

Imran Ahmed, Primary School Programme Coordinator, said: “Once again we had a very successful programme; it was great to see so many young children come through the mosque doors. Over the week we almost had 1000 children take part, it was a long week but truly rewarding and next year we hope to make it even bigger and better.”

The programme took almost 6 months of planning and the demand for places is getting higher each year.

The Mosque has promised in future it will work out a programme where even more Schools can participate.

Mosque President Mohammed Imran, said: “A huge appreciation goes out to all the volunteers who gave up there time to help out with the programme.

“The mosque has a responsibility of educating the wider community on Islam and our School Programme is just one of the many initiatives we take.

“I would also like to thank all the schools who took part at this year’s programme and from my observation and feedback I received all in all, it was an excellent programme with a lot of positives.”
