Construction begins on new medical centre

Date published: 08 July 2011

Construction of a new state of the art medical centre in Rochdale got under way this month, with completion expected in April 2012. The Wellfield Surgery will be relocated in the brand new centre which is being built on land directly across from its existing premises on Oldham Road.

The 9,250 sq ft centre, which is being developed by MedicX, a leading provider of innovative premises solutions for the primary care market, will include eight consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, a nurse treatment room, and a MedicX Pharmacy, in addition to a 43 space car park for patients and members of the public visiting the local facilities.

The scheme has been brought forward by a number of local stakeholders, including Rochdale Borough Council, Rochdale Development Agency, Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale PCT, Pennine Land and Impact Partnership, to offer a centralised location for local doctors and staff to provide much improved services and healthcare experiences for patients and the local community.

Steve Jeffers, CEO, MedicX Pharmacy says: “MedicX Pharmacy is delighted to be working with the development team at MedicX and the partners of the Wellfield Surgery to provide new healthcare services for their patients. We look forward to the opening of the new medical centre and MedicX Pharmacy in April next year”.

Councillor Linda Robinson, Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Housing said: “This is another key development in the regeneration of the Oldham Road corridor in Rochdale. I'm sure when it opens this new state-of-the-art centre will offer first class health facilities that will benefit people across the area."

Ian Butterworth, Head of Estates at NHS Heywood Middleton & Rochdale, comments: “This is a major step to achieving a long held goal for the practice, patients and the community in Rochdale.”

Dee Flynn, Practice Manager, Wellfield Surgery, concludes: “We are very excited about the new health centre and the fantastic facilities that it will offer. This is a provision that local people desperately need and it’s great to see construction beginning. We look forward to moving in next year and being able to offer the local community an extended range of healthcare services.”
