Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award students
Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award students from the Rochdale Sixth Form College have taken part in an outdoor expedition, at Hollingworth Lake.
The students spent time kayaking and raft building one the first day of the trip followed by a ten mile hike around Blackstone Edge on the second day.
James Davidson, the teacher responsible for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award said: “This is the first time that some of these students have experienced camping, so to stay local was a sensible choice on this occasion.
“This introduction will place them in good stead for the next expedition, which will be in the Lake District in the autumn.
“They have learned so much over one weekend – let’s hope that they can continue to develop their skills and be ready for the Gold Expedition in the summer of 2012 which will be in Scotland.”
