Art exhibition is a hit

Date published: 07 July 2011

Rochdale Sixth Form College’s first Art Exhibition was a huge hit with the public.

Visitors had the opportunity to view a variety of art work produced by the students.

The work on display was from all aspects of Art and Design including Fine Art, Photography, Sculpture and Textiles.

The artwork was ambitious in scale and concept, dealt with personal and social issues and demonstrated diverse cultural references from contemporary art to the students own family lives.

The work included the sculptural installation of Kayleigh Scullion documenting the passage of time on ones memory.

Ms Scullion has worked to trap nostalgic memorabilia in both wax blocks and patchwork blankets to build an eerie homage to the disappearing past.

Also in display were the constructed textiles and sculptural fashion of Chelsea Dixon influenced by the 70’s punk rock of the Sex Pistols, the juxtaposition of the hand made papers and vibrant hair pieces construct an edgy high fashion garment.

College Principal Julian Appleyard, said: “The quality of what our students have produced is exceptional and testimony to the creativity, motivation and commitment of our students.

“They have been led superbly by Steph Green our Art teacher and I have no doubt many of our students will head off to follow undergraduate courses in this area.”
