Residents treated to a ‘big lunch’

Date published: 05 July 2011

Residents from the Norman Weall sheltered scheme on Fielding Street, Middleton, have enjoyed a fish and chip lunch, courtesy of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) as part of the nationwide ‘Big Lunch’ initiative.

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing’s Communities First Co-ordinator, Ruth Sillence explained: “The ‘Big Lunch’ began in 2009 and aims to encourage communities to come together in a social environment and get to know their neighbours.

“RBH is continually working towards strengthening neighbourhoods and recognises that each individual has a part to play in making their environment a great place to live and work.

“Supporting the Big Lunch every year at our schemes and across our estates is a simple way in which we can help foster community spirit”.

Sheltered scheme resident, Richard Corr said: ‘’It’s good to get together and enjoy lunch.

“We are often so busy doing our own things – in my case, usually in the garden - so the opportunity to stop, chat and enjoy good food with my neighbours was great. “
