Community learn about improving safety and reducing crime

‘Improving Safety and Reducing Crimes’ event was held at the Castlemere Community Centre.
As part of the Neighbourhood and Home Watch National Week, an ‘Improving Safety and Reducing Crimes’ event was held at the Castlemere Community Centre.
Councillors and representatives from agencies including the police and fire service attended the day – aimed at highlighting the importance of working together to improve safety and security for people in the borough.
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, said: “If we care for our neighbours, set up Home Watch Schemes in every street and work with the police, we can save many lives and damage to properties.
“We need to work together to improve the quality of lives of people in our neighbourhood.”
Residents were told of improved safety and security measures in place across the borough and particularly in the Milkstone and Deeplish Area.
The fire service provided information about the importance of smoke alarms.
Zahida Abbas and her son Adeel of the Daha Look made a visual presentation of their invention, which will improve home safety including the most vulnerable in the society.
This device blocks the letter box from opening from inside and prevents people who may try to put oil or fire / fire work through the letterbox. People were very interested in this device.
Liz Poulter, General Secretary of the Rochdale Area Watch Association, encouraged the audience to set up more and more Home Watch Schemes in their respective areas and work with the police and the PCSOs to improve safety and security for everyone.
