St Cuthbert's RC School Prom 2011

Date published: 30 June 2011

Students from St Cuthbert’s RC Business and Enterprise College arrived at the school grounds in stretch limousines, sports cars and even a fire engine – before being whisked away in luxury coaches to a secret destination for the school prom on Thursday night (30 June).

Prom night is a highlight for every school leaver, but this one was particularly extraordinary for 16-year-old Sam Davies who broke his back and neck in a bike accident in March.

Sam missed school for three months, before returning to complete his GCSEs earlier this month.

The teen is currently wearing a Minerva jacket brace and will do for the next five weeks – however it didn’t stop him dressing up for the occasion and having fun with his friends.

Sam is hoping to attend Hopwood Hall College in September to study Electrical Installation.

The words on the lips of many students were how much they will miss the school and their friends.

Bradley McCarroll said: “I’m going to College to train to be a chef in September. School has been pretty good; I’ll miss it and my mates.”

Siobhan Mitchell echoed these thoughts, she said: “I’m going to Holy Cross Sixth Form to study Psychology, English, Photography and History.

“I will miss school; I’ve made some really good friends.”
