Students raise money for hospice

Date published: 24 June 2011

For the tenth year in a row, Hopwood Hall College students have raised money for Springhill Hospice.

The students have been working hard to raise money for the hospice all year and have raised almost £1,500.

They organised bake sales, raffles and tombolas in a bid to raise money. They also participated in a bag packing scheme at Morrisons.

Julie Perry, Admin Manager at Springhill Hospice described the students as “extremely friendly and caring” and their contribution as “invaluable”.

Tutor Yvonne Warburton said: “At the start of each academic year, we take students on a visit to the Hospice, where they are given a guided tour with a presentation from one of the fundraising team.  After discovering that the day to day costs of running the Hospice amounted to over £5,000, the students were moved into action.”

She added: “This year the students manage to raise a fantastic £1,470 and should be extremely proud of their achievement.”

Students received donations from many local businesses such as Madison’s Restaurant, Card Factory and Academy Hair and Beauty. The Principal also generously donated funds to enable a student raffle.  It was extremely successful and managed to inspire participation from staff and the majority of students. The students and Curriculum Leader Elizabeth Bardsley would like to give many thanks to all those who supported them, and those of you who donated.
