Roads resurfacing to start on Castleton estate
Date published: 22 June 2011
The long awaited resurfacing work on the Alder Road/ Kirklee estate in Castleton is finally scheduled to start later this week.
Letters informing residents of the planned works have been delivered to all the affected households by the contractors, Colas Ltd.
The carriageway will be resurfaced using a material called Microasphalt, a combination of aggregate and bitumen emulsion. This forms a new surface, eliminating potholes and increases skid resistance.
Once the work commences it usually entails the roads being closed for only a very short period of time – approximately 30 minutes.
Alder Road resident, John Heyworth, who raised the condition of the roads at a Castleton Forum meeting last year said: “I am delighted that this work is to begin.
“Anyone who has driven on the estate knows how bad the potholes are and how long overdue this work has been.
“These roads have laid untouched for over 40 years at last we are seeing some action.”
