Ten Year 10 Geography GCSE students will be completing their geography controlled assessments this year on the Holderness Coast during the last week of this term. They will be studying the coastal landforms from Flamborough head to Mappleton along this part of the Yorkshire Coast. Students will be staying at the Cranedale centre for 2 nights taking part in rock climbing and orienteering. This is a great opportunity for the Geography students to see the power of the North Sea and the coastal features it creates.

The Council’s cabinet has agreed to an increase in the charge of the standard school meal for pupils by five pence (5p) from £1.75 to £1.80 with effect from 1 September 2011.

Many thanks to the parents, pupils and friends of school who joined us this week for our production of ‘Tales from the Midnight Mangroves.’ An enjoyable evening was had by all and people were impressed by the high quality of performance delivered by the Year 10 and 11 cast. Well done to all involved in the project.

Sixty learners from Years 8, 9 and 10 participated in a CEPA visit to Bury College to see ‘Copacabana’ this week. We thoroughly enjoyed the production and seeing former pupils perform for us. We look forward to seeing pupils in similar productions in the future.

We welcome staff from schools across Rochdale and Greater Manchester this week as we hosts an INSET on Video Editing. The training takes place on Tuesday afternoon from 2.00pm until 4.00pm and is lead by Mr DeCourcey.

Congratulations go to our ‘Future Perfect’ band led by Mr Dalby who have participated in a highly publicised charity concert in Castlefield, Manchester. The pupils from across all years have performed to a crowd of approximately five thousand. Well done to all the staff and pupils involved in the project.

We have currently postponed our Treasure Hunt that was to take place on Saturday 2 July due to a double booking of events. The event may take place in the near future if there is space on the calendar to fit it in. Many thanks go to those families and pupils who had organised teams for the event.

We wish good luck to pupils sitting their music graded exams this week. Learners have rehearsed long and hard over the past few weeks in readiness for the exams and we wish them every success.

This week sees the start of our Year 8 Cross-Curricular ‘Healthy Lifestyles’ Week as learners will focus on this important issue across the curriculum. We look forward to seeing the product of their great work in assemblies very soon.
