GMPA re-appoints chairman for fifth year

Councillor Paul Murphy has been appointed Chairman of the Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA) for a fifth year.
Independent member Christine McGawley also remains as Vice Chairman following the Police Authority’s Annual General Meeting.
Councillor Paul Murphy said: “This is a challenging time for the Police Authority as we make some difficult decisions in order to meet the budget shortfall while ensuring GMP provides an efficient, effective police service to our communities.
“We also face uncertain times as to the future of police authorities.
“I most certainly have the energy and enthusiasm to meet these challenges head on and I thank my fellow members for their support and for once again appointing me as Chairman.”
Christine McGawley, who is also a Magistrate, added: “Since I was first elected as Vice Chairman in November I have embraced the opportunity with energy, drive and determination.
“I am proud to continue in this role and will support the Chairman and members as we move forward during the difficult few months ahead.
“I am passionate about adding value to the police service and driving performance, ensuring the communities of Greater Manchester receive a value for money service.”
