Sports Review of the Year at Redwood School - Have you made a note of the date for our first ever Sports Review of the Year at the Gracie Fields Theatre on Thursday 7 July at 6.30pm? It will be a celebration of all the achievements by pupils, regardless of ability, throughout the year in a variety of sporting, leisure and club activities. Please come along to this family event and enjoy the occasion.
Year 7, 8 and 9 Parents Progress meetings will take place on Tuesday 28 June, 3.45 - 5.45pm. Congratulations to Darren W, Bridging Course Student who was presented with an award at the Aiming Higher presentation at Manchester University in recognition for his work with a variety of activities in school. It takes hard work and determination to succeed and Darren has done just that. Well done Darren for this unique award – the only student in Rochdale to achieve this.
Key stage 4 – 4M have been once again selling chocolate brownies to Oulderhill pupils; this is to raise money for the Enterprise group. So far they have managed to raise £95 which is excellent. 4E and R have been working hard on work for their display boards. They are working on Aztec temples and Mexico. The textiles group have been working on picture frames for a couple of weeks, they have the finished products now and they all look excellent. The vocational Education group that go to Rathbones have also been finishing off a project. They have been working on building and painting tables and building a tunnel, yes you read it correctly a tunnel.
Key Stage 3 News - a selection of students recently went on the Annual Rotary trip to Camelot. Thanks to the Rotary Club for a great day out. Aqsa, Jordan and Robert went horse riding, where Robert completed a ‘Rising Trot.’ Yellow 8/9 built skyscrapers out of boxes to represent a Japanese village. Yearr 7 Red went to the park they held a lesson in the sand. They sieved the sand to find the best to make wet and dry models. Daniel W produced some excellent writing in English after the class had discussed what they had done over the weekend. Spanish lessons have seen the students making castanets and maracas. Year 8/9 Orange helped to make butternut squash and ginger soup for Year 7 red to take to Blackpool.

Sixth form news – It was business as usual for those not away on residential. The Lanzarote group have had a fantastic time. The Keswick residential group had an equally great time. More stories next week. Ben, Roy, and Thania made the most of the quiet atmosphere and took part in massage and relaxation. Riaz and Matthew had a taste of life after 6th Form. The pair have visited Oldham College for a taster session as part of their transition and coped really well in the different environment. Saieda, Liam, Craig, Hamza and Kane had a great time making peppermint tea and looking at different types of flowers as part of their natural environment studies in Vocation Education. The Horticulture group have planted Begonias and removed thistles from the MUGA. Declan who joined the group this week had his work cut out clearing the weeds and thistles as big as bushes from the planters.
Don’t forget Redwood closes on Tuesday 19 July for the summer holidays NOT Wednesday 20 July as published at the start of the academic year.
