John Spindler mentoring Hopwood Hall College Progressions students
Students currently studying at Hopwood Hall College’s Middleton campus on the ‘Progressions’ courses have been benefitting from the support of a top business mentor.
‘Progressions’ is a course which helps learners to build up their skills to enable them to progress in their chosen area/career.
The Vice Principal of the College, John Spindler has kindly set time aside this term to support our work skills students in their young enterprise project as their business mentor.
Their enterprise project involves the young students working on a gardening project and also hosting a garden party which will be held on the 29 June.
Mr Spindler explains why he feels that this sort of work is important: “I have been really happy to work with the Work Skills Group as part of their Young Enterprise Project. It has helped to keep me focused on what we need to do in order to give our leaners the best life chances. The students have been extremely enthusiastic and can always be relied upon to come up with imaginative ideas.
I want to continue my link with this group and am trying to see how I can best make a difference. I’m currently working with our Director for Estates and our Construction Manager to improve the outdoor gardening facilities these learners use and am hopeful that we can develop a really fantastic resource for these learners.”
Tutor Joanne Wilson says: “John has been a great support all year and has attended meetings and offered business advice. The students have learnt a lot from working with somebody with a business background and have really appreciated the time set aside.
John has shown great enthusiasm and encouragement to the students throughout the project.”
