Finance duo strike gold

Two members of NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale’s (HMR) Finance Team were selected as joint winners for the most recent Going for Gold Stars awards.

Yvonne Perry, Financial Services and Systems Accountant, won the award for her work on the Transforming Community Services (TCS) project which saw community health services from NHS HMR transfer to Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust on 1 April this year.

Ms Perry said: “With all the ongoing changes within the PCT, we are all being more flexible and picking up different pieces of work either in the long or short term over and above our day to day job, and I recognise that other people within the organisation will have worked hard to achieve certain timescales and objectives.

“It was a nice surprise to have been nominated for a Going for Gold Star and to have been chosen as a winner against equally deserving colleagues.”

Sam Evans, Associate Director of Finance, who nominated Ms Perry said: “Without the work completed by Yvonne many staff in our community health services would have noticed a severe impact upon operational financial issues and the transfer would not have been so smooth.”

Marie Micklethwaite, Management Accountant was nominated for her dedication to her work, giving “110%” when submitting statutory returns. The submission of statutory returns can often be a complex procedure with more and more information required every time they need submitting.

Ms Micklethwaite said: “My view is that I have only done my job the same as everyone else at the PCT but it is nice to know that my efforts are appreciated and that my manager has gone to the trouble of nominating me.”

Sam Evans, Associate Director of Finance, who nominated Ms Micklethwaite, said: “Marie often goes unnoticed to colleagues outside of the finance department but she is integral to the work of the department and to the Trust. Many colleagues would struggle to complete some of their tasks without her knowledge and assistance.”

Going for Gold Stars is a staff awards scheme that has been developed by NHS HMR to recognise staff who provide an outstanding service or go the extra mile. The awards are nominated and judged by staff working within the Trust.
