Residents across Rochdale borough are being urged to secure their properties this summer.
As part of the 'Secure Summer' campaign, officers are reminding residents that burglars don’t just strike when they are out or have gone to bed – it only takes a few seconds for them to get in through an unlocked door and steal valuables, even when you are in.
Chief Inspector Nadeem Mir of Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division said: “We are still seeing too many offences where people have left doors or windows unlocked, and I would remind the public that around one in three burglaries happen because of insecurities like this, even when you’re at home.
“With the warmer summer weather this situation will only get worse as people try to keep their homes cool, so to avoid becoming a victim you should lock external doors and windows whether you are at home or not.
“If you don't secure your home you are not only leaving yourself vulnerable to burglars – you may also invalidate any insurance claims you make. So remember – lock up to keep burglars out.”
