Chance for charities to win a big day out

Date published: 16 June 2011

System One Travelcards has launched a campaign to offer charities and community groups in Rochdale the chance to win a share of £3,500, to enable them to enjoy a ‘Big Day Out’ this summer.

The company is appealing to residents to highlight individual local community groups, charities and organisations that deserve a ‘Big Day Out.'

They will be donating £250 to one organisiation from each of Greater Manchester’s ten boroughs, to be spent on the day out, plus an additional £100 transport fund, towards travel by public transport to the venue of their choice, from Old Trafford or the Museum of Science and Industry, to picnic in one of the region’s many parks.

The winning groups will then be able to use the additional £100 travel fund towards travel on public transport using products from the System One DaySaver range.

Gradyn Thompson, from System One Travelcards, said: “There are so many community and charity organisations in Rochdale that offer vital services and social activities to local residents all year round.

“Many of these fantastic organisations have been hit by funding cuts, or struggled to cover costs in the tough economic climate.

“System One’s ‘Big Day Out’ is a great opportunity to reward projects that may need a little extra support to enjoy a fun day out in the region this summer.”

To be in for a chance to win, applicants need to contact System One and explain, in no more than 150 words:

  • The name of the organisation and what it does
  • In which borough of Greater Manchester the organisation is based
  • Why the organisation deserves a ‘Big Day Out’
  • What the organisation would do on its ‘Big Day Out’

Applications can made through System One’s Facebook page, OneManchester, by emailing BigDayOut@tangerinepr.com, or by sending via post to Nikki Girvan, Tangerine PR, Giant’s Basin, Potato Wharf, Castlefield, Manchester, M3 4NB.

Organisations are also able to nominate themselves, and all applications must be received by midnight on Sunday 3 July.

A panel of judges will shortlist three organisations from each borough, which will then be put to a public vote. The shortlisted nominations will be announced on Monday 4 July, when voting will go live on the OneManchester Facebook page.
