Serious fail-to-stop collision on motorway
Date published: 16 June 2011
Part of the M60 was closed this morning, (Thursday 16 June), following a serious fail-to-stop collision.
Shortly after 3.00am a 42-year-old man parked his grey Ford Puma on the hard shoulder of the anti-clockwise carriageway at junction 17, Whitefield.
He left the car and was then struck by an unknown vehicle which then drove from the scene.
He suffered serious leg and pelvic injuries, and was taken to Hope Hospital where he is in a critical condition.
A large box-type white van was believed to have driven by the scene shortly after the collision and officers believe this driver could now hold vital information about the incident. This vehicle was not involved in the initial incident.
There is no description as yet of the vehicle that struck the man.
All three lanes of the anti-clockwise carriageway were closed between junctions 13 and 17 while emergency services dealt with the incident. The carriageway has now been fully re-opened.
Anyone with information is asked to call the road policing unit on 0161 856 7201.
