Family fun at village carnival

Date published: 11 June 2011

Families lined the streets to watch the annual Milnrow, Newhey and Districts Carnival today (11 June).

The carnival parade, led by the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, started at 1.00pm from Haugh Lane, Newhey, and travelled through Newhey and Milnrow to Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College for an afternoon of fun and games.

Motorbikes, carnival queens, dance troops, brass bands and youngsters in fancy dress were just some of the delights on offer.

The Mayor, Councillor Alan Godson, said: “The parade was really good and the sun was shining on us.

“There were so many people watching which was great, this really is a proper parade.”

The Mayoress, Gillian Brown, added: “It was brilliant.”

Milnrow and Newhey Councillor, Irene Davidson, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, the weather held out for us.

“The motorbikes were the stars of the show, the children loved them.

“Everything went smoothly. It has been fantastic.”
